YOUTH GIRLS PROGRAM - GENERAL INFORMATION

GIRLS AGE GROUPS

We follow US Lacrosse guidelines and regulations. Please see the below regarding information on which age group youth will typically fall under as well as a brief description of the game. New and returning players are welcome at all age groups.

As the interest and participation grows for the Appleton Lacrosse Club and in the BVLA (Bay Valley Lacrosse Association) we hope to grow to offer individual teams at each level.

U8- Grades 1 through 2.

  • Currently players in the U8 group are focused on skills development and will play up on with the U10 team if agreed upon by coaches, parents and the skill/comfort level of the player. A U8 level is not currently offered by the BVLA.
  • If we are able to schedule a true U8 game in which the format is as follows. This age group plays games in a 4v4 format, on a 60 yd x 35 yd field, with no offsides and with 3'x3' goals and goalies(not required). The U8 is focused on having fun, creating excitement about the game and building lacrosse skills and individual athlete development.

U10- Grades 3 through 4.

  • Played on same field as 8U in a 8v8 format. Goals are a standard 4'x4'. Goalies are standard in gameplay. U10, like U8, is focused on gaining a love for the game, while developing lacrosse and athletic skills.

U12- Grades 5 through 6.

  • Currently players in the U12 age combine with our U14 team for games. A U12 level is not currently offered by the BVLA.
  • Field increases in size to regulation (110 yd x 60 yd). Game is played in a 10v10 format. At this age, foundational lacrosse skills(such as passing and recovering ground balls) are further focused on and developed. Teamwork is more emphasized at this level than in younger age groups.

U14- Grades 7 through 8.

  • Continuation of U12. Field size and format remain the same. Further development of skills occurs at this level as well as preparation for the High School levels.
